ATLANTA - UGA coach Kirby Smart said that his program will play two quarterbacks this fall.

“I don’t see the second QB redshirting. That’s not in our plans,” Kirby told reporters on Tuesday.

The third-year coach’s statement ends speculation about if former 5-star recruit Justin Fields will play or redshirt this fall.

“Fields has shown us why he was the No. 1 recruit in the country,” UGA WR Terry Godwin said of Fields' performance during practices.

Jake Fromm is the starter going into the fall, but he was in a similar play-or-redshirt situation a year ago before then-starter Jacob Eason was hurt in the first game of the season. Fromm started from the second game on - Eason eventually transfer to Washington.

“I think you guys are making too big a deal on the redshirting thing,” Smart added. “The guy can either think or he can’t. We are going to wait and hold these kids for four years. Its not back (like it was) with Knowshon when he redshirted, and then moved on. We should have played him.”
