If there’s a new Bulldog target to keep an eye on in the 2022 class, it’s West Forsyth (GA) tight end, Oscar Delp‍.

Since his big two-touchdown performance in the season opener, the 6-foot-5 220-pounder has seen his recruitment explode, picking up offers from top programs across the country.

After months of just “interest” from major schools, the first domino finally fell, and it was a big one. Wearing maze and blue cleats at his practice this week, Delp said Michigan was always a school he’s had interest in.

“Michigan has always been a school I dreamed of”, Delp told Dawg Post. “Having a chance to play football there and for that to be my first offer really was shocking and crazy. My family freaked out. My dad grew up there and I’ve got family up there. I didn’t really grow up watching games but I knew how big of a football school it was my whole life. I’ve always had them in the back of my mind.”

Delp added that some part of him wanted to go ahead and commit right there, but he’s a smart kid. He knew more offers were on the way, and he’s excited to check out different schools as more start to roll in.

“There was definitely some parts of me that wanted to jump on board, but I knew if that one was going to be the first one that there would probably be more coming soon.”

He was right. Offers came in daily in September, including one from the in-state Georgia Bulldogs.

“When Georgia offered me it was a real eye-opener,” Delp said. “It’s the University of Georgia. They’ve played in a national championship. It’s one of the best college football teams in the country. Just to think that if I could be out there playing with those kids that I could play anywhere in the country. It made me push myself more and I want to go out and prove that I deserve that offer.”

Delp also has some family ties to South Carolina, so he’s very familiar with the SEC and the Georgia program.

“I was also a big South Carolina fan growing up so I always watched Georgia when they played South Carolina”, Delp said.  “I went to watch Georgia play at South Carolina in 2018. I remember when they had Nick Chubb and Todd Gurley and all those insane running backs. I’ve always known that they were an insane team.”

Delp added that Georgia is definitely a team towards the top of his list right now, and that’s because of his relationship with tight ends coach, Todd Hartley.

“Coach Hartley is such a down to Earth guy and I can talk to him on the phone whenever I want”, Delp said. “I can talk to him for an hour straight and not get bored with the conversation. It’s not always about football, but about family. It’s a really good relationship that he’s building. We’re talking about every other day.“

So, what means the most to Delp?

Academics.

A 4.0 student at West Forsyth, Delp is a star in the classroom as well as on the field. North Carolina and Stanford also noticed Delp recently and extended an offer last week.

“Academics are definitely going to be a big part of my decision because it’s really a 40-year decision and not a 4-year decision”, Delp said.  “How well I’m going to fit with the offense and how they utilize their tight ends is also going to be a big factor in where I go.”

As a prospect, Delp has great size and big-play ability. He’s a great rouner for his size and knows how to get in and out of his breaks. He’s a true weapon in the passing game and it tough to bring down by just one defender. While he’s an excellent pass catcher, he’s great blocking on the edge as well. He’s got a lengthy frame with the ability to add more muscle over the next few years.
