Kirby Smart just went into the Palmetto State and took the state’s top-ranked player away from the Gamecocks.

That’s 4-star defensive tackle Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins‍. The early South Carolina lean was also heavily interested in Tennessee, but in the end, it was the Bulldogs who won out for the big 6-foot-5 290-pounder.

The Gaffney (SC) star took a visit to Athens on March 1st, right before the coronavirus outbreak, and sources say he was treated like a top priority for Tray Scott during the visit. The Bulldogs continued to push, and after seeing the disasters going on in Knoxville and Columbia, Ingram-Dawkins decided to finally jump on board and commit to Georgia.

So, what are the Bulldogs getting in Ingram-Dawkins?

Quickness and Consistency.

The first thing you notice is his first step off the ball. For an interior defensive lineman, he fires off the ball really well and then plays with good hand placement. He has a long frame and uses it to his advantage against offensive lineman. He does a nice job of getting his hands up and he drives his man backwards on a consistent basis.

His film may not blow you away, but the four-star is always involed in the play. He lives in the backfield on a consistent basis and can really shut down the run game. He’ll need to continue to develop his pass rush, but his motor will help land sacks at the next level. He’s a good athlete for his size, and if he develops the proper way, he’ll be able to provide plenty of depth and add more athleticism and quickness to the middle of Georgia’s defensive line.

So where do the Bulldogs go from here?

The Bulldogs now have three defensive lineman committed, and all three project to play inside at some point in their career.

The big prize out there continues to be 5-star DL Maason Smith‍. Sources continue to tell Dawg Post that the Bulldogs are still in the mix, but the LSU Tigers appear to be the team out in front still behind the scenes,.

A new defensive lineman to keep an eye on is JUCO DE Byron Young. The Bulldogs extended an offer this week and he could be the edge defender that staff is lookoing for to complete this part of the class. The Auburn Tigers have also offered, and more could be on the way soon for the Georgia Military College (GA) defender.

As for Ingram-Dawkins, he is ranked at the No.1 player in South Carolina and the No.17 defensive tackle prospects in the country in the 2021 class.
