Kirby Provides Update on Jamie Newman's Injury
ATHENS - Jamie Newman missed time with the Bulldogs this summer with a foot injury.
That’s according to UGA coach Kirby Smart, who said that Newman “probably missed half” of the Bulldogs’ walkthrough practices this summer.
“He had a mild foot sprain,” Kirby said on Sunday. “He’s back now, and able to do everything.”
Newman is considered by many to be the favorite to with the starting QB job for the Bulldogs for the 2020 season. But he will have competition from Georgia’s other four quarterbacks. Kirby praised the work of that position. Still, fellow transfer QB J.T. Daniels is not cleared yet.
“J.T. is not cleared yet,” Kirby said Sunday.
The fifth-year coach said that he expects all five of his signal callers to fight for the starting job.
“Competition is part of the process,” Kirby said of his quarterbacks room.
