ATHENS - The Georgia Bulldogs got their first ranking of the wild 2020 season on Thursday.

It was right where the team left off - No. 4. The Bulldogs finished 2019 as Sugar Bowl champions and as the 4th-ranked team in America after a 12-2 season. This is the first time in UGA history the program has started the season in the top five in three consecutive years.

But to get back to a top five finish the Dawgs will have to claw their way through two big games with pre-season top-ten teams.

No. 3 Alabama and the No. 8 Gators highlight Georgia’s 2020 slate so far. Both games are not in Athens. But the Dawgs are scheduled to host No. 11 Auburn in Athens at some point this fall.

Clemson grabbed the top spot in the coaches’ poll with No. 2 Ohio State right behind them. Those two faced off in the College Football Playoff Semifinals last year. Defending national champs LSU check in at No. 5 - meaning SEC teams occupy three of the top five spots in the poll as well as five of the top 11.

Texas A&M checked in at No. 13 giving the SEC six teams in the first poll of the year - tied with the Big Ten for the most teams in the rankings. The ACC (with the addition of Notre Dame) and the Big 12 had four teams each in the poll while the Pac 12 had three.

This is the seventh time in history Georgia has started a season ranked in the top five. The Bulldogs have finished in the top five 12 times in school history.
