Georgia tight ends coach Todd Hartley continues to dominate recruiting out West.

The Bulldog assistant helped land five-star tight end Darnell Washington‍ from Las Vegas in the 2020 class, and reeled in a commitment Monday from another elite tight end prospect in Napa, California standout Brock Bowers‍.

The 6-foot-4 230-pound four-star prospect chose the Bulldogs over the Washington Huskies after a July visit to each school. Bowers took an earlier visit to Georgia back in January and came away impressed with what the program and Todd Hartley has to offer.

“I like the energy he (Hartley) brings and I feel like he has mutual respect for his players also,” Bowers said after then.  “I only talked with Brock (Vandagriff) briefly but he seems like a good dude.”

Bowers is ranked as the No. 3 tight end prospect in the Composite Rankings, the No. 11 prospect in California and No. 92 overall prospect in the country for the 2021 class.

So what is Georgia getting in Bowers?

Athleticism and versatility.

Bowers checks all the boxes at tight end. He is excellent in the passing game moving and running routes like a receiver. He has big, strong, reliable hands, and he’s tough to bring down once he’s got the ball downfield. He runs well for his size and has the ability to split out and play on the outside in certain situations.

As a blocker, Bowers shows he can be nasty and physical with opposing defensive lineman. He plays with great hand placement and drives his opponent backwards. He’s a tough, physical kid who plays until the whistle.

He doesn’t regularly play against great competition, and he still needs to add more mass. But the athleticism is easy to see as he catches the ball well on the run, he breaks tackles and can be used in multiple ways on offense. He can line up as a traditional tight end, play some H-back, full back, or even flex out wide and play receiver. He’s a true offensive weapon with his versatility and athleticism to make a real impact in UGA offensive coordinator Todd Monken’s offense.

Overall, there’s a lot to like about Bowers’ game. He can help both in the passing and running game, and he’s only going to get better once he gets to Athens.
