BREAKING: 4-star LB Chaz Chambliss Commits to UGA
ATHENS - Carrollton LB Chaz Chambliss is a Dawg that will hunt now.
The 4-star linebacker committed to Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs today - addressing a critical area of need for the Bulldogs’ linebackers in the 2021 recruiting class. UGA beat out Auburn, Alabama, Clemson and Mississippi State for Chambliss’ commitment.
“He plays with a mean streak,” Dawg Post recruiting analyst Matt DeBary said of Chambliss. “He’s strong and knows how to make a tackle. Chambliss can really close gaps in the middle of the field.”
Chambliss is considered the consensus No. 24 prospect in Georgia and No. 251 overall prospect in the country. He is the Bulldogs’ eighth commitment of the 2021 class. UGA offered Chambliss more than two years ago, and have recruited him hard since then.
An avid hunter, Chambliss says there is a big difference between being a football player and an outdoorsman.
“Hunting and fishing are by chance. They are by luck most of the time,” he said. “Football - you have to work for it. You have to work for every single yard; every single catch; every single tackle. Nothing is going to make it easy unless you train yourself to make it easy.”
Chambliss has shown flashes of elite ability since he was a freshman in high school.
“He may not have the prototypical sideline-to-sideline qualities you look for in a linebacker that is coveted my today’s defensive coaches,” DeBary said. “But he’s quick enough to run someone down at 240-pounds.”
Chambliss visited the Bulldogs for the Notre Dame game in the fall of 2019. He was back in Athens in January.
