ATHENS - Dozens of cheering fans gathered for UGA staffer Jeremy Klawsky’s departure from Piedmont Athens Regional Thursday.

Klawsky, who works for Kirby Smart’s football program at UGA in the video department, was released from the hospital Thursday afternoon after being treated for COVID-19. Smart, UGA athletic director Greg McGarity and a slew of other UGA officials and staffers were on hand for the celebration.

Klawsky rolled out of Piedmont Athens Regional in a wheelchair to an awaiting vehicle with supporters clapping and shaking pompoms for over a minute in what was an emotional send off.

“UGAA staff were allowed to participate in this touching ceremony by waiting outside of the hospital to view Jeremy and his family as he exited as a show of support for him as well as the many healthcare workers who participated in his care. Jeremy will continue to receive therapy as he recovers,” Senior Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine Ron Courson said. “UGAA is very appreciative of the outstanding medical care and support he received during his hospitalization.”

Klawsky has worked in UGA football since at least the 2018 season in the video department for UGA football. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, Athens-Clarke County had more than 100 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.
