5-star OL Broderick Jones Signs With Georgia
It’s now official.
5-star OT Broderick Jones has signed with Georgia.
The elite tackle prospect didn’t sign with Georgia in December when he had the opportunity too, and the Auburn Tigers were in the mix in January, but after cancelling his visit to the plains last weekend, the Bulldogs were able to land his signature on Signing Day.
Jones has been committed to Georgia for over a year and a half now, but his recruitment took a turn after former offensive line coach Sam Pittman left to be the head coach at Arkansas. New offensive line coach Matt Luke came in and solidified his relationship with Jones as early as he could. Jones took his official visit to Georgia the weekend of January 2th and the Georgia staff was able to win him over with their final visit last Friday.
What will Jones bring to Athens?
An elite frame and potential.
The 6-foot-5 300-pounder is long, lean, and checks all the boxes at left tackle. He’s strong, but still has room to put on more weight in his upper body. He’s athletic, light on his feet, and can handle speedy pass rushers coming from the outside. He has strong hands and does a nice job of finishing blocks until the whistle.
His footwork and ability to band make Jones one of the best pass protectors in the 2020 class. He plays with balance when he’s engaged with another defensive lineman and knows how to hold on to a block once he gets his hands on someone.
He has the size that coaches drool over, already looking like an NFL prospect. He can be quiet off the field, but Dawg Post got to see some leadership qualities when we saw him play this fall.
He has the frame, the athleticism, the footwork and the overall potential to be an outstanding tackle for the Bulldogs down the road. He will certainly get a look at one of the open tackle spots as soon as he gets on campus and starts diving into the weight-lifting program.
