90 Days to Kickoff - Dawg Post Countdown

ATHENS - 90 isn’t a number that pops up a lot in the history of the Georgia Bulldogs. 

The only season ending in that number - 1990 - was totally forgettable. Not going to get into that. But for the most part the one thing that sticks out about the number 90 in Georgia history is how many big plays happened in the return game for the program. 

Four times in Georgia history a touchdown has been scored on a return (2 kickoff returns; 2 punt returns). The No. 7 all-time pass for a touchdown was a 90 yarder.

Lamar Davis scored a 90-yard touchdown pass from Heisman Trophy winner Frank Sinkwich during No. 2 Georgia’s 35-13 win over Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium on October 24, 1942. 

Floyd Reid scored a touchdown on a 90-yard kickoff return during Georgia’s 20-0 win over Clemson at Sanford Stadium on September 29, 1945.

Zippy Morocco scored a touchdown on a 90-yard punt return during Georgia’s 40-0 win over Furman at Sanford Stadium on November 25, 1950.

Jake Scott scored a touchdown on a 90-yard punt return during No. 18 Georgia’s 31-13 win over Clemson at Sanford Stadium on September 28, 1968.

Isaiah McKenzie scored a touchdown on a 90-yard kickoff return during No. 17 Georgia’s 63-31 win over Kentucky at Commonwealth Stadium on November 8, 2014.

DL Freddie Gilbert

A two-time All-SEC performer and four-year starter, Gilbert was part of Georgia’s greatest four-year run in school history posting an overall record of 43-4-1 (1980-83). He helped lead the Dawgs to the 1980 National Title, three SEC crowns and four major bowl games (3 Sugars and one Cotton). Gilbert helped solidify Georgia’s defensive line with the uncanny ability to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks. His 26 career sacks ranks sixth all time at UGA.
