97 Days to Kickoff - Dawg Post Countdown

ATHENS - Perhaps the rainiest game in Georgia history came in 1996. 

It was a matchup between Texas Tech and the winless Georgia Bulldogs and their new head coach Jim Donnan. Late in the game, and playing on a sloppy surface and a driving rain, the Bulldogs trailed Texas Tech 12-7 and had to go 97 yards to win the game. Mike Bobo directed the Bulldogs on a ten-play, 97-yard game-winning drive in 1:12 to score on 22-yard pass to Juan Daniels with 1:45 left to put the Dawgs up 13-12. 

UGA decided to go for two, and scored on an end around with Hines Ward flipping into the end zone after a great block from TE Larry Brown. Texas Tech missed a game-tying 53-yard FG attempt as time wound down, and Georgia beat Texas Tech 15-12 on September 21, 1996.

Leading 41-17 in the fourth quarter, D.J. Shockley led the Bulldogs on a 12-play, 97-yard drive that took 5:32. Shockley had two runs for 57 yards on the drive as No. 8 Georgia routed Kentucky 62-17 on November 6, 2004 in Lexington.

97 Yards: UGA vs. Ga. Tech, Nov. 25, 1994, in Athens 

It was the final game of Eric Zeier’s career, but he left it injured - leaving the task of taking out Georgia Tech to his backup - freshman Mike Bobo. Up 27-10 in the third quarter, Bobo directed the Bulldogs on a 6-play, 97-yard drive in 2:10 to help the Bulldogs blowout their in-state rivals 48-10 on November 25, 1994.
