ATHENS - Deangelo Gibbs‍ is back in school at UGA.

Its a sign that Gibbs could return to the football team this fall. The sophomore did not play late in the 2017 season and didn’t enroll in classes this spring. At minimum, Gibbs was dealing with a medial issue that sidelined him at the end of the season.

UGA coach Kirby Smart said in March that both Gibbs and linebacker Natrez Patrick, who was arrested for a third time in his UGA carer late in the season and didn’t participate in the Rose Bowl Game or the CFP National Championship Game, were on the path to playing again.

“I think both those kids are working really hard, doing the things we’ve asked them to do,” Kirby told reporters in late March. “And to be honest with you we’re trying to help them as much off the field as on the field right now.”

Patrick was enrolled and practiced with the program this spring.

Should Gibbs return to practices this fall he would bolster a secondary that’s been banged up with injuries. He would also have the ability to fight for a starting spot - likely at the star position. Gibbs is a former 5-star recruit from Grayson.
