77 Days Until Game Week for UGA

ATHENS - I was around, but only barley. It was the fall of 1977, and it wasn’t so great to be a Georgia Bulldog.

Only once that decade - in 1977 - did Georgia lose to Florida, Auburn and Georgia Tech. In Jacksonville the Gators slipped past the Dawgs 22-17. Auburn took out UGA in Athens 33-14. Two weeks later Tech toppled the Dawgs 16-7 for only its third (and final) win of the decade in that series.

Vince Dooley coached at Georgia 25 seasons and had only one losing season, and it was that fall.

Other notable 77s in the history of the Bulldogs…

Zeke Bratkowski hit a 77-yard punt during No. 2 Georgia’s 46-14 win over Auburn on November 17, 1951 in Columbus.

Tim Worley scored a 77-yard run during No. 8 Georgia’s 38-10 win over TCU on September 10, 1988 at Sanford Stadium in Athens.

Brian Mimbs booted a 77-yard punt during No. 2 Georgia’s 14-7 win over South Carolina on September 13, 2008 at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.

Top UGA players to ever wear the No. 77
