100 Days Until Game Week for UGA

ATHENS - We are 100 days until game week. 100 days until the frenzy begins - this season in Nashville.

There’s a 100-dollar bill. There are 100 yards on a football field. No, you can’t wear the number 100, and rarely do you score in triple digits (Georgia has only scored 100 or more twice - 1913 Alabama Presbyterian and 1910 Locus Grove).

But today there are only 100 days left until game week - Georgia at Vanderbilt. And so, like everyone else, Dawg Post begins its countdown to the start of the season. There will be many hot and humid practices before the start of the new campaign, but the number 100 is significant in so many ways. Here are a few…

Georgia got its 100th win in school history on October 8, 1921 against Furman. The Bulldogs won that game 27-7. Georgia’s 100th loss came on November 1, 1929. That was a 21-15 loss to  Tulane in Columbus, Ga.

Georgia has managed to play only two programs - Auburn and Georgia Tech - more than 100 items. The Bulldogs own a 59-56-8 record against the Tigers and are 67-39-5 against the Jackets. Georgia's 100th game with the Gators will take place in 2021.

100 years ago Georgia, in 1919, the Bulldogs got back to football after the Great War and went 4-2-3 under the leadership of W. A. Cunningham. It was his final season in Athens.

In 1959 Charlie Britt’s 100-yard interception for a TD of a Gator pass is the only one in school history. On November 7, 1959, the interception for a TD helped the Bulldogs beat the Gators 21-10 on the way to an undefeated SEC championship that year.

Aaron Murray threw his 100th career TD against North Texas on September 21, 2013 during No. 9 Georgia's 45-21 win in Athens.

The opening game of Todd Gurley’s career showed just how special he could be. He took a kickoff back 100 yards against Buffalo in the No. 6 Bulldogs’ 45-23 win on September 1, 2012.

A few years later Clemson dared to Kickoff to Gurley, too. The result was another 100-yard kickoff return for a TD. That helped the No. 12 Bulldogs route the No. 16 Tigers 45-21 in Athens.

In the 100th season of UGA football, 1992, the Bulldogs ended the season with a 10-2 record and a Citrus Bowl win over No. 15 Ohio State. The Bulldogs narrowly lost to No. 20 Tennessee (34-31) and No. Florida (26-24).

Brandon Boykin holds the UGA record for most 100-yard kickoff returns with three. He took a kickoff the distance at Tennessee in 2009, against South Carolina in 2009 and at Kentucky in 2010.
