Dawg Post is counting down the Top 50 UGA players of all time through the summer. Keep checking back each weekday to see who we have next…

No. 46 - Lindsay Scott WR from Jesup

Lindsay Scott made the biggest play in UGA history - you may have heard of it.

Florida in a stand-up five, they may or may not blitz, they won't... Buck back, third down on the eight. In trouble! Got a block behind him... Gonna throw on the run—complete on the 25. To the 30, Lindsay Scott 35, 40, Lindsay Scott 45, 50, 45, 40—Run, Lindsay! - 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! - Larry Munson

But to boil down Scott’s career to only one play would be a mistake. As of the 2018 season, Scott was still the No. 8 leader in school history for career yards gained with 2,098 from 1978 to 1981. He also ranks No. 3 in total kickoff returns in school history (52), and No. 3 in kickoff return yardage in school history with 1,152. His 99-yard kickoff return against LSU in 1978 is still tied for 5th longest in UGA history. Scott led the NCAA in kickoff returns in 1978.

Still, Scott’s 93-yard touchdown against the Gators is still the second-longest TD pass in school history. Only Aaron Murray’s 98-yard pass to Reggie Davis in 2013 is longer. Scott added an 80-yard TD against Tech in 1981.

Put bluntly - Scott was one of the best receivers in UGA history before throwing the ball became common. And he did so in the era of Hershel Walker’s Georgia, which tells you just how good he was.
