BREAKING: UGA AD Greg McGarity Gets One-Year Contract Extension
ATHENS - Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity was given a one-year contract extension on Wednesday.
McGarity’s contract at UGA was set to expire on June 30, 2019, but UGA’s Athletic Association extended McGarity’s contract until the end of the 2020 fiscal year. UGA president Jere Morehead talked about the extension after the UGA Athletic Association board went into executive session during its meeting.
McGarity’s most-recent contract extension happened in 2015. He has been athletic director at UGA since 2010. In that time, McGarity has made two notable changes: dismissing Mark Richt and Mark Fox and replacing them with Kirby Smart and Tom Crean.
In that time Georgia’s athletics budget has almost doubled from near $77 million to FY 2019’s $143 million. FY 2020 is expected to grow even more. Georgia’s $157 million in revenue in 2017 was sixth-most in the NCAA that year.
