I watched the UGA vs UCONN sweet sixteen game of 2006. It was a great game but UGA was crippled from the beginning of the season. The team never complained but it was disaster before the season. I remember it like it was yesterday. This team had final four and a possible national championship written all over it. We had gotten a transfer in 2005 from Penn State's Reicina Russell who was 6'6" and all Big Ten freshman center. Reicina ended up never playing another game do to medical reasons. Rebecca Rowsey who started the entire 2005 season, but she blew out her knee the first practice. Ebony Felder who had chronic knee problems and she sat out her final two years and Angel Robinson who was a 6'6" post who had a torn ACL as well. We had to play the entire season with Tasha Humphrey at center with no rest, Meghan Darrah at power forward and she was a true small forward. We were preseason top ten.
Just think, we were led by Sherrill Baker and Tasha Humphrey who both were All American. You had Alexis Kendrick at point guard and Cori Chambers at small forward and we brought Janese Hardrick off the bench. We had a 6 player rotation the entire season and it took a miracle shot by Barbara Turner to knock us out of the tournament. We were up by fifteen points in the first half but we wore but never quit. UCONN would lose to Duke by two points who lost the National Championship game to Maryland by three points in overtime. That is how close we were to winning the National Championship that season. Four top players lost before the season and the six players that played were top players. Just think, we would have been able to beat anyone that season and the SEC was super as usual. Tennessee would win the next two National Championships.

I remember that game. Tasha cried. She was a sophomore. Baker is my favorite player. I loved watching her size up her prey before she pounce.
