Hoop Dawgs also rank #13 in the 2018-'19 SEC preseason media poll. Moreover, no UGA players were named as preseason 1st or 2nd Team All-SEC.

Andy Katz predicts UGA will finish 13th in the SEC this season:

13. Georgia: The Bulldogs are in retooling mode with Tom Crean creating his team's own identity. Senior William Jackson II will be the go-to player. There is strength inside in Derek Ogbeide. But this team will be a good watch because the effort and enthusiasm will be in place.

Turtle our go to guy and Ogbeide our strength inside? I don't see it. Hammonds and Claxton will be our best two. Ogbeide is much leaner but his game doesn't appear to have changed much. Turtle is a smart player who keeps his turnovers low but that's about it. He can't create his own shot off the dribble or drive and kick out like the better PG's in the league.

I'd hoped Crump or Teshaun could overtake Turtle at the point. That hasn't happened. Tyree will be Tyree... score in bunches at times, take awful shots and make turnovers at others but at least he's consistent on the defensive end (sarcasm). Looking at Crean and Tyree last night was identical to how Fox and Tyree acted. Complete frustration on both of their parts. Teshaun and Harris did not look good. Harris had 5 turnovers, while Crump and Hightower had 3 each in 14 minutes of playing time. Turtle had 0 turnovers in 20 minutes. He's our best option.

We won the game with a lineup of Claxton, Edwards, Hammonds, Wilridge and Jackson. That huge group playing zone clogged the lane and shut UAB down. That's not a 5 that'll win in the SEC. Pressing teams would annihilate us.

DO had to get in better shape; he would get winded too quickly, which is why he was subbed for often 90 seconds into a game.

Crump and Harris just may never become the players we thought they would be. Crump seemingly hasn't improved on the defensive end at all, and his shot selection is just awful. We need him to take good shots, and we need him to hit them. If he can't do that, he's a liability.

Harris is a shockingly poor ballhandler. There's no reason a 6'4" SG should get the ball stripped away so often or to not be able to hold onto passes. He also needs to hit shots (which he won't if he keeps shooting so flat); if he can't, then he too is a liability.

Hightower flashes brilliance one minute and incompetence the next. He is alarmingly inconsistent as well. But he's only a sophomore in a completely new system that should fit his skills. I will be more patient with him.

It's way too early to rule out improvement for these guys and the team, but these guys must improve for the team to get better.

Like you, Sid, I don't like that final line-up. That won't win us many games.
