I read an interview with Hayes that he described his role more of a GM than coach. Does anyone know if Hayes is filling the Goins spot, or did MW get added head count? And any thoughts on Goins leaving? I can appreciate he is 'going home.'

It is being reported Hayes is FTE add, and Goins will be replaced with another assistant.

Correct. Behind the scenes. Not on the bench

Do you know why not a bench coach? Will he be focused more on recruiting, roster management, NIL, etc?

The cynical side of me wonders if Hayes will fill the role of "get your two top 20 sons to come play basketball at Georgia."

The non-cynical side is happy to have him, though. I was lucky enough to be in college to watch him play. Loved those teams.

Does Goins leaving hurt? Where was his greatest impact made?

Is Goins the one who just came last year?

I personally have no insight. Not sure I view a move to NC ST as a step up, or even lateral to an SEC job, but he is from NC/that area. So hard to know if he saw writing on the wall, jumped ship, or merely seized an opp to move closer to home.

Maybe Ball will get some intel.

It wouldn't be the first parent hired in collegiate athletics to gain a signature.

At least Hayes has legit hoops bone fides.

I personally have no new intel too add. I will say though, I think NcSt is an upgrade in terms of coaching so I can't hate on it. I think Gainey was a home run hire. I'm always a huge fan of former players going back to their Alma maters. I think that secretly helps with donor funding. NcSt has shown they will spend way more money than us in basketball especially recently, they're invested for the upcoming seasons financially. That's why I think Haynes is a great higher. A UGA great will 100% get the boosters fired up. His off the court role will be way more than he could provide on the bench. I think since Miami hired Pastrana we had a huge hole when it came to recruiting. Also I'm pretty drunk right now so I could be confusing people, but I believe Haynes has a kid that is a boardline 5 star at Woodford that's playing basketball. Having his dad on staff definitely increases his chances in coming here. That hire alone makes our chances of getting him a lot higher. We have whiffed on the elite Woodford talent for years, that would be a great get. I also believe Haynes has great connections in the Ga AAU scene that would help recruiting. Overall it's a great higher. Only time will tell thought (whether his son comes here or not)
