I thought we had Wilkins and another hot shot recruit onboard for next year. We still need a true point guard, amongst other things too.
Wilkins and Kareem Stagg are both Top 100 forwards. It's a nice class. However, as we've shown time and again this year, having a dominant forward is of little value if you can't get him the ball. Newell (who will be gone) does most of his damage off the offensive glass because our guards aren't able to get the ball to him, either on time or in position.
Because it's 2025, the
real question is this: who stays? Our roster has seen massive turnover since the advent of the transfer portal. White can't afford that.
If you want to choose optimism, the following guys stay put:
- Drezgic
- Demary, Jr.
- Cain
- Montgomery (he needs to grow up, though)
- James
- Godfrey
- Cyril
Add in the two freshman and you have a fairly loaded frontcourt. It's then imperative on White to:
- Develop Drezgic
- Get another PG out of the portal
- Grab two shooters out of the portal
That's a lot, and it's hard to assume it will all happen. Hope and optimism are two different things. I always have hope, but optimism eludes me these days...
