Dawgs win by 3 over St. Johns after Cain, Newell and Godfrey fouled out. I know Somto was playing with 4 at the end; there may have been others. We turned the ball over at an amazing (awful) clip. Our fouling kept them in the game because they couldn't hit from 3 - just 2/19. I don't think we rebounded well either, even though we finished with 37 rebs to their 34; just were not blocking out. They had 21 offensive rebs - just too many. They shot 28 FTs to our 16, and many of our came down the stretch when they had to foul. I'm sorry, but Demary is a walking TO. He should never, ever take the ball inbounds. His passes inbounds are terrible. We had 24 TOs, from which they scored 19 pts. Demary had 8 TOs yesterday and 10 today. He made some big plays down the stretch hitting FTs and shots, but those infernal TOs will lose us games. We shot 49% from the field to their 31%; that's where I thing we won the game. Honestly, I'm glad St. Johns was playing their 3rd game in 4 days. I had a team that lost that 3rd game to a team we hade no business losing to because my kids were just tired. That probably had a lot to do with it, because we tried to give this away.

Well said. We also have got to work on handling the full court press. If we advanced the ball effectively there then we would have won by 15 or more.

We can't have Demary taking the ball inbounds against a press. He turns it over waaaay too much. I also don't like letting the defense set up their press. Get it inbounds fast and get it to the middle so you can't be trapped....

Silas is a problem right now.

Thrilled about the win, though. This team has toughness and depth, and both of those things were key today.

He was. That won't work going forward. He either has to tighten up or come off the ball.

18 TOs by your PG in 2 games is not OK. He couldn't throw the ball inbounds on multiple occasions. He should not be the one taking the ball in against a press. It should be Godfrey or Cain probably. Granted both those guys fouled out against St. Johns (some really ticky tack calls IMO), but Demary just is not good in that situation. He does a lot of good things. He gets to the foul line and makes his FTs this year. He plays hard, defends hard and rebounds well for a guard. But he is a TO machine. That will kill you in close games. It really was a miracle win yesterday. DeShayne Montgomery can't get eligible fast enough.

Bingo. I remain optimistic about the team, but it's now on film that we can't handle a press and that our PG can't hold onto the ball. I hope he will be ok, but hope is not a plan.

Our conference opponents will attack any weakness we show. TOs are a HUGE weakness. A big problem. We can't pretend it's not. Personally, I hate giving our opponents extra possessions. It's hard enough to win a game playing evenly, but it's almost impossible when your opponent is given extra possessions and when we get way fewer shots.
