Well, that was quite eye-opening....

Dawgs won by about 40 against a pretty good UCF team. It could have been much worse. The guys played a stellar 2nd half, on both ends of the floor. Demary, Cain, Lawrence, Godfrey and Newell started and played very well for the most part. Cain just shot the eyes out; Newell was tremendous, both inside and outside; Lawrence defended very well and got to the hoop with authority; Godfrey is just a very effective all around player. And boy are we deep. And we played without 2 of our guards - Montgomery (eligibility) and Leffew (injury). I think we had 100 pts with about 6 minutes to play IIRC. We shot over 60% from the floor and over 50% from 3. We have some guys with pretty strokes. We out-rebounded UCF by around 15. And Somto can just sky; he's worth the price of a ticket by himself. Savo is really smooth and will only get better as he gets used to the speed and physicality of the SEC. This was only our second game as a team, folks. There were a few too many TOs in the 1st half, and the defense was much better in the 2nd half than the 1st. All in all a fun game.

I've been trying to temper my excitement - we've all been burned before - but man...I'm all in. That was really, really fun to watch.

This is easily the most talent we've put on the floor in 20 years. We're 10 deep.

Monday can't get here fast enough.

And yes, it was just an exhibition, but folks should know that UCF is ranked a single spot behind us in the initial KenPom rankings: https://kenpom.com/

That was not a bad team that Georgia just dismantled.

If you and Buckets are both feeling it, look out!

If you weren't excited by what we saw last night, you might be dead.... LOL

I agree. I think this, at the very least, is the most talented team we've seen in Athens since Harrick's last year. And it could be deeper than that team. Once that team got past about 7-8 guys, there wasn't a ton of depth. This team, however, is loaded with depth. If one of the leading shot blockers in the country last year is coming off your bench (he's probably our 4th post), if you have potential stars coming off the bench at the guard positions (Leffew and Montgomery, who we haven't even seen yet), if a star European guard is going to fight for minutes, then you are deep. They could have probably won that game last night by nearly 60 pts if White had chosen to.

Everything looks better to me - defense, ballhandling, perimeter shooting, rebounding, shotblocking, depth.... A guy I was sitting with last night said that we are legit 10 deep. We could probably even give pretty long minutes to the 11th and 12th guys without a ton of drop-off.
