Demary
Cain
Lawrence
Godfrey
Newell

I think he's waaaay off on this. Demary will surely start at PG, but keep an eye on Savo, who could be a real steal when he gets used to the speed and physicality of our level. The surprise is gonna be Leffew. I can almost guarantee he starts at the SG. Someone told me yesterday that he has been tremendous in practice. I saw it in the few minutes of scrimmage I saw awhile back. This guy is a dude.... Lawrence might start if we go with 3 guards - he's a really good defender, but he has to shoot in volume to score. Newell clearly starts, but where? I say at PF because I think Abson starts at C until Somto can get up to speed. We have to have an inside presence. You waste Newell if you don't put a big body next to him in the post. Then it comes down to what to do with Godfrey. White loves the guy. Has he improved his perimeter shooting? He's a great defender and is very energetic. If Godfrey starts, Lawrence probably doesn't. I thought of something yesterday. Perhaps Godfrey starts with Newell and Abson on the front line but plays the SF on defense and the PF on offense with Newell moving to the perimeter. Newell is a very good shooter from outside. Good problems to have....

I was able to speak directly with a few staffers and managers of the team over the summer and since school has started, and I promised to bite my tongue, but what I will say is that do not be surprised when Leffew comes off the bench, will have a green light and probably will be in the closing 5, but just watch for him to be the potential 6th man. Also, not sure if it has changed, but since the first week of camp Abson has struggled and I think it is totally reasonable if Somto steals his minutes a lot quicker than we projected.

I would be surprised if Leffew comes off the bench. I think he is by far the best option at SG. I'm not surprised Abson is struggling a bit. Somto is going to be the starter at C eventually. It's just a question of how soon. Somto is just unbelievably athletic; he's just raw. He's got to work on fundamentals and footwork, or else he will get in foul trouble or make errors/TOs.

I hear you and agree on somto. Just with the limited amount i'll say is that part of the pitch to get leffew here was not only the NIL money but the idea that he could focus solely on his scoring ability and have the all time green light, even if that meant coming off the bench to start.

I don't think there's any question of Leffew having a green light whether he starts or not. He's a scorer pure and simple.

Oh, I'm not arguing with you. I'm sure you're saying what you've been told. Cain may start at first. I just don't think that's our best starting 5. Leffew will be our best SG IMHO.

I agree, turn back Leffews age by 3 maybe even 2 years and he is one of the safest lottery picks in this last draft (yes obviously give any college player 3 years to develop and they'll get much better, I am just trying to comment on his current state scoring ability). Hes got a good knack of feeling where open space is on a floor and how to attack said space to create shots, tough shots too, that he is able to make. Might be my favorite scorer to watch next season since Ant. I would love to see him start, I also think it will be good that whether it is Cain starting or Leffew, to have the threat of shooters/scorers of that caliber to be starting AND coming off the bench makes us really dangerous. If people would look past Cains looks (goofy looking and thats all I hear other sec fans commenting about him on) and watch his game, its smooth, pure scorer.

Don't underestimate Godfrey's post play. Watching Clemson's Sweet 16 game, he was holding his own in the post on both ends of the floor against Arizona's two 7 footers. I don't think Asa would be forced exclusively into a traditional center role playing alongside him.

The lineup I'd really like to see is:
Demary
Cain/Leffew
James
Godfrey
Newell

Tons of versatility and length. Could go 5 out or play in a more traditional look just the same.
