With all the COVID allowances I can't keep up with who can and can't come back.
Any of the upper classmen returning would be advantageous.
White has got to keep the four freshman. He's got to do a better job of signing high school players, period. This staff was built for recruiting. We can't keep signing 6-8 transfers every year. That is not a foundation model for success IMO.
Who knows. Maybe it is our reality. But I'd like to see our roster with about 8-9 organically signed high school players - minimum - and 3-5 transfers.
We got, what, two high school kids signed for next year - Newell and Nique's kid? So White is going to have to sign a slew of transfer again. ,
I said before the season that we don't have enough guards. This team has a lot of liabilities. I suspect we will again dip heavily into the portal. We definitely need to keep at least 2 of our freshmen. Haven't seen enough from James yet to make a call. There are so many moving parts now with the COVID year and the portal that is impossible to predict who will be back next season. White has a lot of work to do on the roster still. What I would like to see are roster moves that will establish what identity White wants to have. We have no identity. We aren't athletic enough or deep enough. White is not on any hot seat, but we need to see more progress, particularly in recruiting and with the roster.StevieBuckets said:
I dream of a season where the "next year" talk starts in April.
Don't read this as criticism of the conversation. I've been having this talk with folks since South Carolina ended our postseason hopes.
We have one (very good) signed recruit next year. It's not enough. To me, White has to keep Demary, Cain, and James in town (hard to know what to think of Jordan as we haven't seen him play a single minute) and he has to get a couple PGs out of the portal. Our PG play has absolutely killed us.
We need a couple of long, athletic guys in the middle and some wings who can consistently score, too.StevieBuckets said:
For what it's worth, Thomasson, Tchewa, and Sunahara are out of eligibility after this season. To me, only Thomasson represents any real loss.
Monk says it all the time, but we need guards. If Hill is still the first PG off the bench in 2024-25, White has failed. I love his effort, but he's not an SEC point guard.
I hope this happensNostradawgus said:
If - and it's a big if - the four freshmen come back with the two upperclassmen that can return + Newell that is a solid foundation to work off. White will need to find a PG, two best available other guards, a post, and a best available "big."
