who is claiming that our facilities (i.e. Stegeman) are the problem is just making excuses. Plenty of successful programs don't have shiny new gyms. It's more about support for the program in general. On most sites I read, many of the posters just don't care about any sport but football - but then want to complain when we don't win at everything. Winning takes effort and support.... If we all do a little something to help, we can be successful.

Agree, but the fact chunks of the roof are falling off and we've had to shutter the building fuels the negative narrative certainly being shilled about UGA and basketball on the recruiting trail.

I just feel like UGA hoops is Schleprock, a dark cloud just follows us around.

The nuance here is in the middle. Facilities haven't been the issue in 15+ years. But the facility at this exact moment with the roof situation is definitely not helping.

We are also not in this position right now because of the fan support. At every coaching change the fans have come out to support the team ahead of winning or on court results . And then the wheels have fallen off because the wins haven't come. That's true. But fan support has been stronger than the on court product most years on the front half of a coaching tenure. That's looking back.

Looking forward we will need a mountain of NIL money to correct this gong show. And that's going to require a level of support that has not existed.

90% of the reason we are in this spot is that the head coach hasn't been a good enough recruiter. And he hasn't listened to EVERYONE from boosters to admin to lettermen to coaches to AAU leadership who has said "you need to hire a deep group of locally tied elite recruiters."

We have hired a bunch of Dan Mullen's who think they are the smartest guy in the room and don't need blue chip talent to win. And they were all wrong.

Even Harrick (who was an offensive genius with few peers) needed 6 players who could make a real impact. But even Harrick didn't win many HS recruits. He landed 3 solid kids from HS in his 5 or 6 years. Thomas, Daniel's and Wright. He then got 3 outstanding transfers in a 2 year period. That's not sustainable. Even with a guy with his coaching acumen.

White has a mess to navigate. He has very little margin for error. But he conceptually has the hard part (staffing) in pretty good shape. He's just got to get kids.

And yes. The roof isn't helping.

Agree with this. Estrana (sp?) Has shown great recruiting skills and energy. He was successful both in FL and at OK State. Miskdeen (sp?) also is reputed to be an effective recruiter. Curious to see what they can come up with over the next year or two. Success, when it starts, builds. We've seen this before.

I agree with much of this. As to your last point, the proof will be in the pudding. White and staff have to bring in players. I understand our assistant HC has sworn he will recruit a post player. I would argue we need 2 - and a PG - and a couple of perimeter shooters....
