One could be a false positive too - it happens. i personally know several people who had them - confirmed by medical doctors to be false.

Is this a routine screening test or did he have symptoms? Having had the infection doesn't mean you won't be infected again but rather symptoms are unlikely if you get reinfected. Recent study of UK healthcare workers showed that immunity from infection is durable - all convalescents who were infected a second time were asymptomatic. Another study showed that many with asymptomatic or mild infections also developed immunity. Great news for those who have had it and it certainly is promising for the vaccine.
