ATHENS - In case you forgot, Gunner Stockton has some wheels.
The Georgia Bulldog quarterback has made plenty of big plays with his legs during his career, but he’s never had a run like he did against the Hogs.
Right after the two-minute warning in the first half, facing a 3rd and 2 from their own 27 yard line, Gunner Stockton flipped the field with a big 62-yard run.
We’ve seen Gunner Stockton truck defenders before. We’ve seen him dive “Superman” style into the end-zone. We’ve seen him create plays when things break down.
But we’ve never seen him take off for 62 yards. Until now. Stockton gave the Bulldogs the big play they needed to drive the field and find the end-zone before the half.
Head coach Kirby Smart had a lot to say about Gunner to reporters after Georgia’s big road win.

According to FanDuel, the Atlanta Braves have +1400 odds to win the World Series this fall.
“I just knew he was going to run out of gas”, Smart told reporters. “He got tired there at the end. We had guys blocking for him, and he got ran down. But he made some good cuts and, and honestly he never got touched on that play, so it was very well blocked.”
“He's a weapon,” Smart added. “A lot of those are drop back passes that become explosive plays. I think any time your quarterback can take off and run, it's a value too. And he's made really good decisions so far on when to run and when not to run, and also when to get down and when to take a hit.”
That last point is critical. We’ve seen Gunner Stockton take some big hits in the past, but when he took off against Arkansas, he made sure to get down without taking a hit. He was a smart, efficient runner, and it led to a big day for the Bulldog offense.
We knew Stockton ran hard. He’s a tough, physical runner who can be a major weapon in the red-zone. Now the senior is out there out-running (some) defenders, giving the Georgia offense another element in the run game.
Overall, Stockton was 10/13 for 147 yards and one touchdown. He also had a career day on the ground, taking off for 97 yards on just seven carries.
The Bulldog passer is playing at an extremely high level right now, and he’ll need to continue his stellar play with an outstanding Oklahoma defense coming to town next weekend.
