ATHENS - Georgia Bulldog tight end Ethan Barbour spoke with reporters on Tuesday about his first touchdown catch, last year’s injury, his teammates, and more.
On his first touchdown reception...
“It was a great play called by Coach Bobo, my receivers blocking downfield, and then we sold the run well. So, I mean, it wasn't just me. Of course, I got into the end-zone. I scored a touchdown, but the dawgs scored a touchdown at the end of the day.”
On comparison to Mike Tyson...
“It shows me I put the work in every day. But it's a credit to him. You know, I wouldn't be able to get there without him. He coaches me hard every day, just like everybody else. So it's just it's great.”
On recovering from last year’s injury...
“I just love the game. Ever since a little kid, I've always just been a happy, energetic person. I think it's pretty selfish to just get down on yourself and not be around the team, even though you're hurt. I think there was other ways to make an impact on the team, and that's what I tried to do. I just tried to take my rehab as serious as possible. The training staff, they were amazing in that process. They got me doing everything I needed to do. And then I just tried to stay on top of everything, and ultimately, they got me to where I wanted to be, and I was able to come back.”

On Georgia’s tight end room...
“I mean, we have a bunch of studs in the room. Everybody has different skill sets so I just trust coach to put us in the best position every day and that's what they're doing. So I don't think it's really anything that I did. I think it's just that we all just worked together.
On why he chose Georgia...
Just the development. There’s nothing better than staying home. I knew I trusted Coach Bobo and Coach Harley to develop me into the person I want to be every day and I see them doing it every day. That's the reason I stayed committed.”
On coach Hartley...
“He's a very high energy dude himself. He had some juice. The first time he came to practice, I think I was in ninth grade. You can just tell he had a certain type of energy about him that you just wanted to be around him, you wanted to be coached by him, so that was definitely my first impression of him.”
On playing in his first SEC road game...
“I'm excited. Every SEC game is a tough SEC game. There are no slack offs. I think Arkansas is a great team. I think it's going to be a hard place to play. So I'm just really excited to go on the road for the first time.”
On CJ Wiley...
“That's my dog. Basically, my next door neighbor. Um, he's working hard every day trying to get better. We push each other, we encourage each other, we basically do everything together.”
On a Welcome to Georgia moment...
“When I came in for bowl practice, and Mykel and Chaz were here and I was definitely in the 230s then. I had to block them one on one, and, you know, it wasn't the best, but they definitely, definitely let me know what type of time it is when you come to college.”
On the mindset of blocking at Georgia...
“Obviously, you want to be involved in the passing game, but to go out there and what it takes to be a physical blocker whenever you're asked to do that. I'll just do your job. Just having the mentality to beat the other man across from you. I think that's what it is. As long as you're willingly, and you want to willingly block, I think you can end up being a successful blocker here. You might not be the best at it at first, but if you're willing to block, you can get better at overtime.
On the attitude and brotherhood in the tight end room...
“I think the Modida in the room is special. Just the way we support one another. Nobody cares how many touches they get. Nobody cares how many times they get in the game. Everybody just supports one another, and we push one another. I think that's one of the biggest things in our room, because we have a lot of great tight ends in our room, but nobody's ever selfish, and we push each other to the max every single day.”
On Jaden Reddell...
Days of stud, um, you know, y'all seen what he can do. Um, uh, just for me personally, just seeing what he done, the growth from last year to this year, I think it's really, really big for him. He's doing some really great things now. Where do you think he's growing? Um... I think he's growing in all areas. I mean, you know, just, just, like I said, looking from what he was last year to what he was into doubt what he is now, I just, I think, is really, really big.
