ATHENS - Linebacker University is alive and well in Athens, Georgia.
Bulldog defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann has consistently produced elite linebackers during his time at Georgia and will have a loaded room once again in 2026.
Schumann will be without last year’s leading tackler CJ Allen, but he’s still assembled one of the more talented rooms in the game led by senior Raylen Wilson.
The former five-star prospect is back for his fourth year and represented Georgia last week at SEC Media Days. He’s one of the faces of the program right now and has earned the full trust of Kirby Smart both on and off the field.

According to FanDuel, the Michigan Wolverines have +1500 odds to win the 2027 national championship next year.
“He (Wilson) was one of the leaders of the defense last year. CJ [Allen], his demeanor and his makeup, sometimes overshadowed Raylen [Wilson]. There were times last year CJ couldn't practice, CJ couldn't play, but Raylen took over. He did a lot of great things along with CJ, and I think he's going to shoulder more of that load along with Justin [Williams] and Chris [Cole]. That's where the leadership in your defense comes from. That middle group that communicates to the defensive line and communicates to the back end. So I have no concerns about Raylen's leadership ability. I want him to continue to grow as a player and get better and have a great season this year.”
As a junior last fall Wilson made 74 total tackles with 2.5 sacks. He was a consistent, dependable player for one of the league’s best defenses. As the “old man” in the room now, it’s Wilson’s turn to lead the way.
A respected veteran, Wilson will be playing next to third-year defenders Chris Cole and Justin Williams, two extremely talented linebackers with high expectations for the upcoming season. Sophomores Zayden Walker and AJ Kruah are also improving, along with three freshmen entering their first fall camp in Athens.
We say it year after year, but the Dawgs will have one of the best returning linebacker units across the nation and Wilson is a big reason why. He’s next in line, and everyone will be watching.
