A former Tennessee Vols football coach is fired up about Notre Dame and the College Football Playoffs.

And no, it’s not Jeremey Pruitt or Lane Kiffin. While I’m sure they too have some interesting thoughts on the matter, it’s Derek Dooley who can’t stand what he’s seeing right now from the quitting Fighting Irish.

In case you missed it, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who lost to Miami both on the field and in the eyes of the committee, missed out of the College Football Playoffs this year.

So now they’re ending their season short. They’ve decided that more practices and more football is actually a bad thing. The Irish have made it clear that once your goals of winning a championship have ended, there’s no point in playing.

They quit on their fans and they quit on the game. It’s that simple.

And Derek Dooley, a “Proud American and Georgia First Fighter for United States Senate”, went to “X” to share his thoughts and make a big, big statement about Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

DON’T FORGET YOUR FANDUEL BETS!!

According to FanDuel, the Buffalo Bills are 1.5-point favorites over the New England Patriots this upcoming weekend.

“I’ve been quiet so far about this college football season so far, but I just saw Notre Dame, who didn’t get into the College Football Playoffs, just take their ball and go home and decide not to play in a bowl game. You’ve heard me a lot say leadership matters, and it matters in college football. This is a terrible example of our young people on how to behave when things don’t go your way.”

“All of us Georgians should be damn proud of the leadership at UGA over there. And I’m not just talking about Kirby Smart. Hell, we know he’s the best in the country. I’m talking about Josh Brooks and Jere Morehead. It reminded me of several years ago when Georgia was No.1 in the country and they get beat in the SEC Championship and get knocked out of the playoffs even though they were clearly one of the best four teams.”

“And what did they do? They went to work. Of course they were upset, but they went to work and they went to beat the brakes off FSU who also bitched and moan about everything. And how did that turn out for them? That’s why still today, the Dawgs are the gold standard of college football. Not only do they have the best players, but they have the right kind of leadership, teaching young people how to respond when things don’t go their way.”

Dooley is exactly right.

The Dawgs were punished for playing an extra game in 2023 and were dropped out of the playoffs. Florida State went undefeated, but they were not one of the four best teams and everyone knew it. Everyone also knew that Georgia was one of the best teams, but the committee left them out anyway.

Florida State, a team with a losing culture, saw half their team quit and not play in the Orange Bowl. A meaningful and highly respected bowl game in their own state. But hey, at least they showed up for the game.

Notre Dame’s not even showing up.

As for Georgia, well, not only did they play to their standard and win the game by 60 points, but they also had future high NFL Draft picks play in the game.

Could you imagine telling Kamari Lassiter and Javon Bullard and Daijun Edwards to just pack up and go home? They’d fight you. They love football and love to compete.

That’s the Georgia standard. We knew Florida State doesn’t have a standard, and now we know Notre Dame’s. When you don’t get your way, you complain and go home. They’ll never admit it, but the Notre Dame “brand” those folks love so much has a giant stain on it now.

One of the “premier programs” in college football, just quit on college football. Unbeleivable.
