AUBURN, AL - Georgia Bulldog head coach Kirby Smart was all smiles as he walked off the field in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
As he should’ve been.
Smart and his Bulldogs won another big SEC game on the road. This time against a major rival with one loss on the record. The stakes were high and the Dawgs came through one again.
“We stole that one,” Smart said smiling to his wife after the game.
Once again, Smart saw his team get down double-digits early in the ballgame. It’s been a common theme for this team, but another common theme has been his team’s ability to fight through adversity.
What happened on the Plains on Saturday night wasn’t out of the ordinary. In fact, it’s exactly what we’ve seen from this team dating back to the 2023 season.
The Dawgs take a punch, get a feel for the game, and then fight back. And normally, they end up winning the game. Just like they did on Saturday night.
However, I’m not sure I agree with Smart’s assessment of the game.

According to FanDuel, the Atlanta Falcons are 3.5-point underdogs to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night.
You could make the case Georgia stole their win in Knoxville, but I’m not sure you could say they stole a win away from Auburn.
Yes, the Tigers whipped Georgia’s ass in the first half and were one inch away from taking a 17-0 lead. But they didn’t because CJ Allen and Raylen Wilson made big plays with the game on the line.
Georgia earned that victory on the Plains. Hell, they earned a 99-yard defensive touchdown they didn’t even get. The Auburn crowd can blame the officials all they want, but they lost the game because they didn’t make enough plays.
It was Georgia that forced the fumble on their own 1-yard line. It was Gunner Stockton who made big plays down the stretch. It was Glenn Schumann who out-coached the Auburn offensive staff after the 1st quarter.
It was Georgia who converted on 4th down and it was Georgia who got off the field in the 4th quarter on defense.
Kirby can believe what he wants, but his team didn’t steal this one. They took their usual punches in the 1st quarter before turning it on and winning the second half. They scored the final 20 points of the game after getting down 10-0. They were 5/8 on 3rd down after starting the game 0/7.
They went on the road, got down double-digits, and fought their way back to victory. Against a team that absolutely could not lose another conference game. They certainly have their problems, but they clearly have what it takes on the mental side. They fight, they battle, and they’re led by their quarterback who continues to make big plays on the road.
The reality is that Georgia beat Auburn because they were better than Auburn. This game wasn’t stolen. Hugh Freeze and the Tigers simply fell apart the second they knew they weren’t going up 17-0. The better team kept playing and ended up winning the game.
That doesn’t sound like a stolen game to be.
