ATHENS - “We have the best tight end room in the country. We’re going to make a lot of plays this year.”

That’s what senior tight end Oscar Delp said before the first UGA football padded practice of fall camp on Thursday.

Delp has grown into one of the biggest leaders on the team and is hoping to end his career the same way he started it. With a national championship.

As the most experienced tight end in Todd Hartley’s room, Delp will lead a very talented group with guys who are hungry to make an impact this season. His good friend and roommate Gunner Stockton appears to be the guy who will lead the offense to start the season.

Delp told the media he has no doubts about Stockton’s ability to lead this team to a special year.

“He’s been preparing like he’s the starting quarterback for four years”, Delp said. “There’s no-one I trust more than Gunner.”

Oscar has faith in Gunner, and Kirby Smart has faith in Oscar.

DON’T FORGET YOUR FANDUEL BETS!!

According to FanDuel, the Baltimore Ravens have +650 odds to win the Super Bowl next season.

“Oscar's a great player”, Smart said. “He's gotten better and better. He has been a better leader. He got one of our most improved boards in terms of work ethic in the weight room and the jumps he made. So he knows this is an important year for him, and for us, it's like having a Y that can physically hold up and block, which no tight end likes to hear that, but the NFL loves that. They like to have somebody that's physical at the point of attack and he is strong, he's physical, he's good in play action, he's tough. I mean, he has taken a lot of rips since being here at the University of Georgia and blocked a lot of good defensive players. So we need him to be a factor at the point of attack.”

In case you forgot, Delp held his own in the run game against a talented Ohio State defense in 2022. As a freshman. With success. He’s been a capable weapon in the run game for years. Now it’s about expanding his role in the passing attack. He’s reliable down the field in the play-action game and has shown he can break tackles and be physical with the ball in his hands.

Lawson Luckie gives Georgia another weapon at tight end. He’s got the potential to be one of the best in the SEC this fall. Jaden Reddell is a promising second-year player who plays the position like a receiver. Freshman Ethan Barbour will see the field this fall and fellow freshman Elyiss Williams will have his time, too. Colton Heinrich is another promising tight end who will provide depth in his second season.

They’re deep, they’re talented, and they’re ready to play to a championship standard this season. It all starts with Delp. He’s the leader. The veteran. The champion.

If Delp and the tight ends have a big season, Georgia’s offense could be tough to stop in 2025.
