ATHENS - Former UGA Football coach Mark Richt had jokes for former UGA QB Carson Beck on Tuesday.

Richt, who was the Bulldogs’ coach for 15 seasons - winning two SEC titles and two Sugar Bowls - was fired at the 2015 season. He was hired immediately by his alma mater Miami for the 2016.

“You were at Georgia - went to Miami,” Richt said to Beck while on air with the ACC Network Tuesday. “I was at Georgia - went to Miami. The only difference is you got paid more than I did.”

“I don’t know about that,” Beck said giggling.

“If you go year-by-year I think you got me by about a million,” Richt said with a smile.

WHAT WE ARE HEARING: "He's An Animal" - INSIDER SCOOP ON UGA FOOTBALL

Beck left Georgia after the an injury ended his 2024 season at the SEC Championship Game. Beck returned on the final play of the first half of the Bulldogs' overtime win over Texas in Atlanta. Beck was replaced by Gunner Stockton in the second half due to Beck's injury. But Beck returned on the final play of the game - a handoff to Trevor Etiene - because Stockton had been forced to leave the game after his helmet came off.

Richt was the head coach at UGA from 2001 to 2015. He now serves as a college football analyst on the ACC Network. In his time at UGA, Richt won two SEC championships and two Sugar Bowls. His teams won ten or more games ten times in 15 years.

After being let go at UGA at the end of the 2015 season, Richt coached three seasons at Miami before stepping down last winter. His time there was highlighted with the Canes’ first trip to a major bowl (Orange Bowl) since 2003. Miami’s 2017 season was that program’s first ten-win season in 14 years.

He began coaching after his time playing at Miami ended. After a successful decade at Florida State under Bobby Bowden, Richt was hired as UGA head coach in 2001.

Beck and the Hurricanes are kicking the season off with a massive game against Notre Dame in Miami. Beck’s former team kicks off 2025 with a home date against Marshall.
