Knoxville, TN - Tennessee Volunteer head coach Josh Heupel is 0-3 against the Georgia Bulldogs as the head man in Knoxville. He’s lost by at least 14 points in each of those three losses, too.
Now, Huepel takes his team into Athens for one of the biggest games in recent Tennessee football history.
They’ve got a “Georgia problem” right now, and they’re coming to Athens ranked No. 7 with their best chance to knock off the Dawgs in a long, long time.
This is a massive game for Huepel in general, but it means even more as the Vols could punch their ticket to the playoffs with a win in Athens and a win over rival Vanderbilt.
Huepel’s Vols got crushed by the Dawgs in Knoxville last year, and they’re hoping to return the favor on Saturday night, officially ending Georgia’s season.
But Huepel knows it won’t be easy. His offense has struggled against Georgia’s defense for the last three years and he knows how tough it was the last time his team played in Athens.
Here’s what the Tennessee football coach had to say about Georgia, Carson Beck, and the Bulldog defense this week...

According to FanDuel, the Georgia Bulldogs are 10.5-point favorites to defeat Tennessee this weekend in Athens.
Opening statement on Georgia...
“You look at them in every phase of the game and they're extremely talented. They play hard. They coach hard. They make you earn it. It will be a great environment and a great opportunity for us.”
“You have to earn everything against them. They’re talented offensively. They’ve got playmakers on the outside. Good offensive line. Talented running backs. Carson Beck’s a dynamic player. Defensively, it’s a typical Georgia defense.”
On Carson Beck’s struggles...
He’s an extremely talented quarterback who’s played extremely well over the course of the season. He’s the key that turns the ignition for them. Playing quarterback, sometimes what people see isn’t just the quarterback play. It takes all 11 playing together. He’s a really good football player.
Thoughts on Georgia’s defense...
It starts with their personnel. They have really good players in the first, second, and third level. They create pressure from their front four and they create pressure from their blitz packages. They can mix up their looks in the back end. We all have to be on the same page. But it starts with running the ball. If you’re one dimensional, they’re going to make it tough for you all game long.”
