ATHENS - UGA Football continued as a top-five football team in the country after a win over the Auburn Tigers on Satuday. Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs host Mississippi State next weekend Between the Hedges.
Georgia's win over Auburn was enough to keep the Dawgs in the top five, but UGA Football's ranking didn't improve even though a chaos surrounded the Dawgs this weekend in the top five. Georgia held at No. 5 while Oregon and Penn State both moved ahead of the Bulldogs in a curious move from voters over the weekend.
Penn State's 16-point win over listless and 1-4 UCLA was enough to put PSU at No. 4 this week. Meanwhile, the Ducks looked sloppy Friday night, but took out Michigan State 31-10. Miami somehow moved up to No. 6 with perhaps the ugliest win for a top-ten team this weekend. Michigan fell out of the top ten all the way to No. 24 after a ten-point loss at Washington.
Alabama took a tumble from No. 1 after getting shocked at Vanderbilt. The Tide is now penciled in at No. 7. Formerly undefeated Missouri fell from No. 9 to No. 21 after getting blown out at Texas A&M, who is not ranked No. 15.
Tennessee's tight loss at Arkansas knocked the Vols back to No. 8.
Texas remained No. 1, and got 52 first-place votes this week. The Horns play No. 18 Oklahoma this week at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Texas then welcomes the No. 5 Bulldogs in Austin a week later. There was a three-team win at No. 18 - a strange and rare phenomenon in the poll.
