Six Players Who Can Make Things Easier For Kirby Smart and the Dawgs

ATHENS - If Kirby Smart can get the most out of these six players, we could see another special season from the Georgia Bulldogs in 2024.
These are players that are bound for either a “breakout” season, or a season where they take a big, much-needed step forward in their progression.
Let’s take a look at some candidates...
Left Tackle Earnest Greene III
One of the more reliable left tackles in the SEC, Greene is coming off a strong sophomore season, but if he can take the next step and become an “elite” left tackle, that will make things even easier for Carson Beck and the Bulldog offense. The Dawgs have consistently produced high-level, elite left tackles over the last several years, and if Greene improves even more and shows he’s one of the best left tackles in college football, which can easily happen, Georgia’s offense could exceed the loftly expectations they already have placed on them. This is a big year for Greene, and a big year would mean big success for the Dawgs in 2024.
Cornerback Daylen Everette
The former 5-star was far from perfect last year, but with the Dawgs playing some top-tier offenses this fall, they’ll need Everette to continue progressing. Is he a true No. 1 cornerback in this conference? The potential is still there, but they need him to be that player NOW. They had Kelee Ringo making big plays, then had Kamari Lassiter holding down his side last year. Now, it’s Everette’s turn to step up. He’s a returning starter, but it’s time he becomes the player the staff thought he could be out of high school. He’ll be tested all season long, and he needs to make his share of plays for Georgia to win the final game of the season.

According to FanDuel, the Georgia Bulldogs have +185 odds to win the 2024 SEC Championship this December.
Wide Receiver Colbie Young
One of several wide receivers who transferred in for the 2024 season, Young is a big target with excellent size and ball skills at 6-foot-4 215-pounds. The Dawgs have plenty of weapons at receiver already, but if Young can show he has the ability to be a go-to option in key situations, that will be huge for Beck and the Bulldog offense. If he can be a dependable option in the red-zone and make big, contested 3rd down grabs, that will go a long way. He’s one of the biggest receivers on the roster and could be a major weapon for Beck throughout the season. If he can step up in a big way, Georgia’s passing attack could once again be one of the nation’s best.
Defensive Tackle Jamaal Jarrett
When Tray Scott and the Dawgs were recruiting the massive defensive tackle out of high school, the message was clear. “Come be the next Jordan Davis”. Jarrett did see the field some last year as a true freshman, and while he does have several experienced linemen in front of him, Scott and the defensive staff would love to see a big step forward from a guy who could really help Georgia in the trenches. They didn’t have a “Jordan Davis” type of the roster, and while we may never see a guy like Davis come through the program, Jarrett could still make a giant impact if he can come anywhere close to that. If he can be a dependable early-down run defender this fall, that would make things easier for everyone around him. They’ll need Jarrett in a big way in 2025, but it’s important he stats showing flashes this season. If he does, watch out.

Center Jared Wilson
Replacing multi-year starter Sedrick Van Pran won’t be easy, but sources around the program are excited about Georgia’s new center. He’s no fresh pup. He’s been in the program a while now, sitting patiently, working hard, and waiting his turn. Now, it’s his job, and if he can hold his own and keep up the excellent center play Georgia’s had for the last several years, that will be key to Georgia’s success on offense. He’s Georgia’s only new starter on the offensive line, and if he can come in and pick up right where Van Pran left off, if that’s even possible, that will go a long way. It’s an important position, so the pressure is on.
Outside linebacker Damon Wilson
Georgia should be just fine at outside linebacker this fall. We expect star defender Mykel Williams to play a bigger role there, they’ve got veteran Chaz Chambliss there, and pass-rushing specialist Jalon Walker there as well. But if Damon Wilson, a former 5-star who was an elite pass-rusher in high school can take a big step forward this fall, that will make a world of difference for the Bulldog defense. The talent is there and several sources expect him to have an impactful season in year two. He still has to fight off guys like Gabe Harris, Sam M’Pemba and others, but if Wilson can start becoming the player they think he can be, he has a chance to have a breakout 2024 season.
