ATHENS - Another day, another big commitment for Kirby Smart, Travaris Robinson, Donte Williams, and the rest of the Georgia defensive staff.

After flipping four-star cornerback Shamari Earls‍ from South Carolina on Sunday, the Dawgs go into Tennessee and land a commitment from four-star safety, Jaylan Morgan‍.

The 6-foot-0 190-pound defensive back out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee at Rockvale High School is a fantastic two-way player who made a giant impact last year not only in the secondary, but as a pass-catcher on offense as well.

The Dawgs are looking for versatile defenders, and Morgan certainly fits that role, giving Georgia their second defensive back commitment in the last two days.

According to FanDuel, the Los Angeles Dodgers have +300 odds to win the World Series next season.

What is Georgia getting in Morgan?

Versatility, toughness, and strong instincts in coverage.

A rangy defensive back who can roam the field at safety to play man-to-man on the outside, there isn’t much Morgan can’t do in the secondary. He reads the quarterback well and reacts quickly when the ball is coming his way. He’s technically sound in coverage, showing quick feet, impressive change of direction, and closing speed on the receiver. When the ball comes his way, Morgan turns into a receiver and knows how to make a play on it.

Morgan is consistently one of the best athletes on the field and shows it on film. On offense, he did a great job of plucking the ball out of the air, staying on his feet, and taking off down the field. He was a true weapon at wide receiver, but his future is in the secondary. Not only does he cover a lot of ground, he knows how to deliver a big hit on the ball-carrier. He hits behind his pads and can be an intimidating presence in the middle of the field.

Overall, he’s a sure-tackling defender with strong instincts in coverage, and that's a big reason why Georgia pushed for his commitment. His best football is still way ahead of him, and he’ll only get better once he gets to Athens and has time to stay at one position and develop the right way under once of the best staffs in college football.

Morgan is ranked as the No. 24 safety prospect and the No. 252 overall prospect in the country.

Where does Georgia go from here?

With four-stars Todd Robinson‍ and Shamari Earls‍ on board, Morgan gives Georgia three defensive back commitments so far in the 2025 class.

Now, the next defensive back coming off the board should be four-star safety Rashad Johnson‍, who will be making his commitment on July 14th. Sources say the 6-foot-2 190-pounder out of South Sumter (FL) will be choosing between Georgia, Texas A&M, and Louisville, with the Dawgs being the team to beat with less than a week left.

Then there’s in-state safety Lagonza Hayward‍ out of Thoombs County (GA) who will make his commitment between Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida on July 27th. Georgia made some ground with the playmaking defensive back during his official visit the weekend of May 31st.
