What are the Dawgs getting in Gaston?
Size, power, and versatility.
A “first guy off the bus type”, Gaston is a physically imposing lineman with outstanding athleticism for his size. A multi-sport standout who also dominated on the hardwood, Gaston moves extremely well for his size and knows how to bury defenders into the ground. He knows how to play in space and can get to the second level and find linebackers to take out.
He’s a bully in the run game and showed everyone last year that he’s extremely reliable in pass-protection. He brings excellent footwork, long arms, and a physical style of play. He’ll have to transform his body more when he gets to Athens, but you can’t teach the size he brings to the table. He’s a four-star starter at Westlake who has grown as a player more and more each year.
In addition to his size and natural power, Gaston Jr. has also shown that he’s fundamentally sound. He does his job, gives great effort, and blocks his man until the whistle is blown. When you watch him play, it’s easy to see why he was a priority for Searles and the Georgia staff in this cycle.
He played left tackle for the Lions, but he’ll likely slide inside and play guard when he gets to Athens. He’s a true mauler in the run game who can also pull and find linebackers to bury at the second level.
You just don’t find many prospects with his size and athleticism very often. He’s a big-time prospect, and now he’s “Committed to the G”.
Gaston Jr. is currently ranked as the No. 13 interior offensive lineman and the No. 184 overall prospect in the country.
