ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs signed the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2024 cycle, and with On3 publishing their final 2024 rankings, one Bulldog, who has already enrolled, earned his 5th star.
That would be former Swainsboro (GA) star, Demello Jones.
The do-it-all playmaker helped lead the Tigers to the Single-A state championship game last year and almost carried his team to the title. The multi-sport star is one of the top overall athletes across the country for the 2024 class, but he’ll start his Georgia career in the secondary.
An explosive runner with good size and tremendous ball skills at 6-foot-1 180-pounds, Jones is now ranked by On3 as the No. 3 CB, the No. 2 prospect in Georgia, and the No. 21 overall prospect in the country.
This is coming off a sensational senior season where he rushed for 1,181 yards and 12 touchdowns on offense while making 32 tackles, picking off two passes, and forcing two fumbles.
“The University of Georgia is getting what they’ve been getting these past several years, an athletically and mentally gifted kid with an absolute edge about him” Swainsboro defensive coordinator Dwight Smith told Dawg Post. “Coach Smart and his staff have done a great job of identifying these guys and locking in on making them Georgia Bulldogs. Demello checks all of the boxes. They are getting the ultimate competitor, and probably the most unselfish kid in the country. He’s equally as special when the play isn’t designed for him to make and celebrates his teammates success more than he celebrates his own.”
