ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have landed a commitment from one of the top 2025 OL prospects in Georgia.

That would be four-star, Mason Short‍.

A one-time Alabama commitment, this 6-foot-6 300-pound offensice tackle from Evans High School in Augusta was a Georgia lean early in his recruitment, and sources say his commitment to Alabama really surprised the Georgia staff.

UGA FOOTBALL’S 2025 COMMITMENTS

When Nick Sabana retired, Short opened up his recruitment, and now he’s commmitted to the in-state Georgia Bulldogs.

What about Georgia won over Short?

“Coach Smart is one of the busiest men on the planet when recruits are visiting on campus. When he does get the opportunity to see me it’s brief but he checks up on my family and asks how I’m doing. We have a good relationship.”

What makes Georgia special?

“Georgia is all about brotherhood. Other schools are too, but at Georgia they’re big on having each other’s back. You see that when you watch the games, practice, and in the weight room.”

On his relationship with Stacy Searels...

“The guys love him. They see him as that funny uncle and someone that has their respect. He has great relationships with his guys and to see that is good. I’m all about relationships.”

What will Short bring to Athens?

Size, quick hands, and versatility.

Short already looks like a SEC-caliber prospect with a long, lean frame with the ability to add more mass and muscle over time. He dominated at left tackle last year for his Evans (GA) team and consistently put defenders on the ground. He shows good footwork and quick, strong hands that allow him to know defenders off balance. He does a great job of getting to the second level in the run game and can overpower linebackers with ease.

His size and physicality allows him to manhandle opposing defenders in the area, but his impressive technique and overall potential has made him a big target for Stacy Searels and the Georgia staff.

He blocks until the whistle and quickly became one of the top pass protectors across the Augusta area and beyond in the 2025 class. He’s an excellent run blocker who stays engaged when he locks onto defenders and has no problem driving them backwards and eliminating them from the play. In pass protection, Short plays with a balanced base and great first initial punch. He was a pancake machine last fall as a junion, and his best football is still way ahead of him.

A versatile lineman, Short has the ability and size to play inside at guard as well at the next level. He’s an experienced tackle, but look for Short to get plenty of looks inside at guard when he gets to Athens.

Short is ranked as the No. 194 overall prospect, the No. 10 interior OL prospect, and the No. 27 prospect in Georgia for the 2025 class.
