ATHENS - Kirby Smart and UGA Football have pulled off the biggest flip of the Early Signing Day period.

That’s right. 5-star ATH KJ Bolden‍, the No. 13 overall prospect in the country, has flipped his commitment from Florida State to Georgia, giving the Bulldogs another 5-star signee in the 2024 class. Bolden signed with UGA just before 4:30 PM EST.

A special prospect with elite speed and outstanding ball skills, sources say Bolden was extremely close to committing to Georgia back in the summer, but instead chose his “dream school” in Florida State.

But Kirby Smart and the Dawgs never gave up. They stayed in contact with Bolden throughout the process, and on Tuesday afternoon, Dawg Post was told there was a real possibility that Bolden could flip to the in-state Bulldogs.

Now, Bolden is heading to Athens. Buford curse? What Buford curse?

Right now, the Michigan Wolverines are 1.5-point favorites to defeat the Alabama Crimson Tide in this year’s Sugar Bowl according to FanDuel.

Why did Bolden choose Georgia?

“The atmosphere at Georgia is just so family oriented”, Bolden said. “The relationship with the coaches also stands out to me. The best part when I visit is just getting to hear the coach’s confidence in my ability to play and the honest advice they gave me.”

Bolden added that Georgia’s championship-level standards also set them apart from others.

“Georgia is special because the coaches and the players that are there”, Bolden added. “They all have a common goal. It’s not a place where being average is acceptable.”

What will Bolden bring to Athens?

Elite explosiveness, versatility, and ball skills.

No matter where Bolden is lined up, he’s bound to make a play. He’s an excellent receiver on offense, a game-changing returner on special teams, and an elite playmaker in the secondary on defense.

Bolden can truly do it all.

At defensive back, Bolden is a sure tackler who brings a physical presence at 6-foot-1 185-pounds. He’s a natural in coverage with outstanding instincts and the ability to close on receivers. When the ball is in the air, Bolden is there to make a play on it. He’s one of the fastest players in the country and covers an insane amount of ground down the field. When he’s not running down the ball-carrier, Bolden is shutting down receivers down the field in coverage. He has the instincts, length, toughness, and ball skills that should translate immediately to the college level.

As a receiver, Bolden is a matchup nightmare. His speed is easy to see, and it allows him to be a dependable vertical threat down the field. Of course, his burst and acceleration makes him a weapon in the screen and short passing game as well. He’s one of the top prospects in the country for a reason, and now he’s heading to Athens.

As a senior this past fall, Bolden caught 30 passes for 663 yards and 14 touchdowns. On special teams, Bolden was a threat to score anytime he has the ball. Defensively, Bolden made 33 tackles and four INTs.

He’s ranked as the No. 1 safety prospect and the No. 13 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class.
