ATHENS -  If UGA football coach Kirby Smart had a list of his favorite players on the 2023 roster, Dillon Bell might be towards the top.

A versatile receiver and a true “weapon” offensively for the Dawgs, it’s easy to see that Dillon Bell is one of Kirby’s “guys”.

Bell was right next to Smart when the Bulldogs took the field in Neyland Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Smart even said something to Bell right before the ran out of the visitor’s tunnel.

Bell didn’t see a lot of action against Missouri and Ole Miss, but the Tennessee Volunteers saw plenty of Dillon Bell on Saturday.

The Houston native made his presence known early on, throwing a touchdown pass to Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint to give Georgia an early 10-7 lead over the Vols. After that, the route was on.

Bell would go on to catch five passes for 90 yards and one touchdown. He also carried the ball once for four yards in addition to his big touchdown pass.

He’s a difference maker, and Smart had a lot to say about his young sophomore after the big win over Tennessee.

According to FanDuel, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Cheifs have +420 odds to win the Super Bowl this season.

“He’s a great competitor”, Smart said following Georgia’s 38-10 blowout win. “When his number is called, he’s ready. He made a big play on a back-shoulder 50/50 ball, The runs after the catch were big. He stepped up big today and we continue to have guys do that when guys are down.”

This time it was Ladd McConkey who was down. With most teams in college football, if you lose one of your biggest playmakers, the offense will take a step back.

But not at Georgia. As good as Ladd McConkey is, there’s someone behind him ready to step up, and last weekend it was Dillon Bell.

This is what Smart had to say about Bell when they signed him in the 2022 recruiting class:

“He was big. He was built like a running back. He has power, has good hands and a tremendous work ethic. Really good speed. That was something that fired us up.”

There are so many pieces to this Georgia football offense, and CBS analyst Gary Danielson made that point during Georgia’s big win.

“This Georgia offense is a machine.”

And he’s right. It’s not just one guy carrying the offense week after week. The Bulldogs have so many weapons offensively, and Bell is one of the sharpest weapons they have.

Kirby Smart and the staff will never admit it, but they LOVE when Dillon Bell is out there making plays. Bell is a former three-star prospect out of The Kincaid School in Houston, Texas. Georgia found him, loved his skill-set, and won him over fairly easily. He’s one of MANY “diamond in the rough” types that Georgia found on the recruiting trail, and now, in just year two, Bell has become an impact player for the No. 1 team in college football.
