ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the UGA football team keep rolling on the recruiting trail.
This time they’ve added a commitment from one of the top tight end prospects across the country in four-star Ethan Barbour.
A big-time pass-catching junior out of Alpharetta, Barbour is a versatile tight end with the ability to make a difference in the passing game. At 6-foot-3 225-pounds, Barbour is a big weapon down the middle of the field and catches the ball like a receiver.
Barbour has taken about “15+” visits to Athens, and today, he chose the Bulldogs over South Carolina, Ohio State, Alabama, and Auburn.

What are the Bulldogs getting in Barbour?
They’re getting a playmaker at the tight end position. An alpha. A guy who loves to compete and loves to get better each and every day.
He’s big and physical enough to block in the run game, but his ability to catch the ball is why he’s recognized as one of the top tight end prospects across the country for the 2025 class. He’s a big target with soft, reliable hands along with impressive athleticism for his size. He can line out wide as a receiver and has been a complete mismatch in man coverage. He plays the ball well in the air and can bring down a tough catch in traffic.
He also shows great body control in the air. He can leap up and snatch the football at its highest point as well as any pass-catcher in metro-Atlanta. He’s a craft route-runner for his size and knows how to get open consistently for someone 230+ pounds. He’s also a threat to take off for a big gain after the catch.
He has size, the willingness to work, natural hands, and above-average athleticism. He’s a leader and a guy who can light up the stat sheet.
As a sophomore in 2021, Barbour caught 51 passes for 714 yards and 12 touchdowns. So far this this season, as a junior, the new Bulldog commitment has caught 11 passes for 227 yards and five touchdowns. He’s scoring a touchdown as almost a 50% clip right now to start the 2023 season.
He’s a difference maker, and now he’s headed to Georgia.
Barbour is ranked as the No. 5 TE prospect, the No. 22 prospect in Georgia, and the No. 192 overall prospect in the 2025 class.
Why did Barbour choose Georgia?
“I chose Georgia because of the resources they have to develop me on and off the field. They can help me make connections in the world after football. They have a great fanbase and a great alumni base.”
“They’re back to back national champions”, Barbour said proudly. “The tight ends are a big part of that. You see the 12 personal they use a lot. The tight end never comes out of the game. Coach Hartley develops the tight ends really well over there. Brock Bowers won the Mackey Award last year.”
“Coach Hartley said he can’t promise playing time but the opportunity will be there when I get there. He’s going to love on you but make you work hard. That’s what you want from a coach. You don’t want any sugar-coating but you don’t want anyone working you into the ground so there’s a happy medium there.”
