ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs got even more big news on the recruiting trail on Friday night.

They did land a commitment from 4-star DL Joseph Jonah-Ajonye‍, but before that happened, they got some big news from one of their top-ranked commitments.

That’s because 5-star commit Ellis Robinson IV‍, a consensus 5-star and the No. 1 CB prospect in the country, has decided to shut down his recruitment after taking official visits in June to Miami and Alabama. Robinson took his Georgia official visit the first weekend in June, and now he’s “locked in” with the Bulldogs.

Miami was believed to be a threat to flip the IMG Academy (FL) star, and sources say Nick Saban and the Alabama staff really impressed him as well during his official visit the weekend of June 23rd.

Some sources told Dawg Post that Robinson may be thinking about opening up his recruitment, but on Thursday night, he shut it down for good.

“Wanna thank all the schools that continue to recruit me but after talking with my family I have decided not to take anymore official visits..Time to lock in and get ready for the season!!”

As a prospect, it’s easy to see why Robinson is a 5-star and one of the top overall prospects in his class. He brings 4.5 speed and a 36-inch vertical jump to go along with his long frame and outstanding ball skills.

Not only does he show tremendous hands, he can run with speedy wideouts, has a great motor, and does a great job of making a play on the ball. He’s fundamentally sound, shows great footwork, and brings a physical presence to the cornerback position. He’s a sure tackler, but his ability to lock down receivers in coverage is why he’s ranked as the No. 1 CB prospect and the No. 8 overall prospect in the country.

He’s instinctive, shows fluid hips, and knows how to bait quarterbacks into making throws they shouldn’t. Of course, when the ball is in the air, he turns into a receiver. The 5-star started his career at Iona Prep (NY) where he picked off eight passes as a sophomore in 2021. Look for him to sharpen his skills even more at IMG Academy this fall before getting to Athens early next year.

Why did Robinson choose Georgia?

“The people in the building are pretty special”, Robinson once told Dawg Post. “They make sure you feel comfortable and at home. Also, the relationship my family and I have built with coach Fran Brown, coach Will Muschamp and coach Kirby Smart has been genuine and sincere. They definitely make me feel like a priority.”

“The coaches are great from top to bottom”, Robinson added. “There’s a lot of talent in the building and they keep adding more. Great coaching staff plus talent equals success. UGA just checks all the boxes for me and my family. I believe coach Fran, coach Muschamp & coach Smart can develop me and get me ready for the next level.”

What does he like the most about DBs coach Fran Brown?

“Coach Fran is just a genuine person. He can reach his players in a lot of different ways. He genuinely cares about you on and off the field. I’ve been building a relationship with coach Fran for about two years and he never switched up on me. I was a priority for him the entire time. I love his consistency in his relationship with me and my parents.”

Robinson was in Athens last November to watch the Bulldogs embarrass the No. 1-ranked Tennessee Volunteers. Sources say Georgia had the lead in Robinson’s recruitment coming into that visit, and held a very comfortable lead after that weekend.

“The way they dominated was impressive. I was really impressed with the way they executed the game plan. I was also impressed by the coaching on both sides of the ball. Coach Smart isn’t just the best coach in college football but he’s a players coach. He loves his guys and his guys love him. I knew I could an see myself playing for coach Smart.”

“My parents and I sat through the whole thing in the rain”, Robinson added. “I could not hear my parents and they were sitting right next to me. Loudest stadium I’ve ever been in. It was crazy.”
