ATHENS - The June fireworks continue to go off for Kirby Smart and UGA football

After an excellent month where the Bulldogs earned five verbal commitments in the 2024 class, they landed their sixth on the final day of June with the addition of four-star OL Michael Uini‍.

A long-time Michigan lean, the big 6-foot-7 335-pound tackle out of Copperas Cove (TX) took his official visit to Georgia this summer, and sources say the Bulldogs rolled out the red carpet - eventually winning him over.

Uini gives UGA its third offensive line commitment in the 2024 class, joining three stars Marcus Harrison‍ and Malachi Toliver‍. Now, sources indicate there is a good chance Stacy Searels adds two, or possibly three more commitments over the next eight days.

As you would expect, Uini is a dominant force at left tackle.

He’s physically imposing and fires off the ball quickly. He has a lengthy frame. He’s big with strong hands and plays violent. In run blocking Uini does a great job of going until the whistle is blown. Once he’s engaged with a defender, he makes it incredibly hard to shed his block.

He’s an excellent pass-protector, but as is the case with any incoming tackle there’s a lot of improving to do. Dominating in Texas high school football is one thing, but doing it in the SEC is completely different.

Uini shows good footwork and bends well for someone his size. His initial punch stands out on film. He gets his hands on the defender early. In pass protection Uini does a good job of knocking defenders off balance. Against the run, he drives defenders backwards with ease eliminating them from the play.

It’s easy to see why UGA offensive line coach Stacy Searels and the offensive staff fell in love with Uini. He’s big, strong and has a high ceiling. Sources say the Dawgs had some ground to make up going into his official visit last weekend, but the plan that Georgia laid out for Uini made it easy for the big man to jump on board.

Uini is considered the No. 10 OT prospect, the No. 28 prospect in Texas, and the No. 150 overall prospect in the country. He also gives Georgia their 22nd commitment in the 2024 class.
