ATHENS - The recruiting fireworks continue to go off for Kirby Smart and UGA Footballon the recruiting trail.

It’s been a massive summer for commitments, and Stacy Searels landed another massive offensive lineman in 4-star Daniel Calhoun‍.

A long-time Georgia target who was originally offered by Matt Luke early in his high school career, Stacy Searels took over Calhoun’s recruitment when he came to Athens, and today he landed his commitment.

This is a massive commitment for a number of reasons. Calhoun is a massive 6-foot-6, 340-pounds, was high on Georgia’s board. Searels beat out both Alabama and Tennessee to land his commitment.

Dawg Post felt Georgia was the team for just about all of his recruitment, but sources say the Crimson Tide made things real interesting last month.

In the end, Calhoun, who took his official visit to Georgia the first weekend on June, decided he wanted to stay home and play for the back-to-back national champions.

The Bulldogs have had a great run of developing left tackles, and had one drafted in the 1st-round earlier this year in former 5-star, Broderick Jones. The Pittsburgh Steeler’s NFL odds to win the AFC North next season according to FanDuel are now at +470.

It’s hard to find a better offense line prospect in Georgia than Calhoun. He’s a mammoth tackle prospect with power and size. A dominant run blocker, Calhoun overpowers defenders with ease. His massive frame allows him to physically dominate, but he shows good footwork and the ability to move well for his size. An impressive basketball player, Calhoun is in great shape and knows how to use his feet.

He’s outstanding in the weight room and has gotten stronger each season. Since he’s a mauler in the run game, Calhoun would be an impact guard at the next level, but we won’t rule out the possibility of him staying at tackle and getting a look there as well. He’s a promising pass protector, and he’ll have the ability to really show that part of his game now that he’s at Walton. There is a lot to like about his game, and there’s a reason why he’s the No. 1 offensive lineman in Georgia. He’s big and physical. He has a chance to have a big impact at Georgia.

What stands out the most about UGA Football?

“It’s close to home”, Calhoun said. “The way they develop their players stands out. They always talk about the offensive linemen that get drafted out of Georgia. The education, development, and the ability to play early also impressed me about Georgia”, Calhoun said. “I think I’d like to go into business or finance.”

What does Calhoun like most about coach Searels?

“He’s really big on technique, but he’s also a loving, caring person”, Calhoun said. “He likes my physicality and my height. I think he wants me to play tackle but he knows I can play guard, too. Coach Smart is a good, hard-working coach. He’s going to push you.”

Calhoun is considered the consensus No. 7 interior OL prospect, the No. 17 prospect in Georgia and the No. 114 overall prospect in the country.
