ATHENS - Another day, another big commitment for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

This time, it’s four-star linebacker Kristopher Jones‍ who has committed to Glenn Schumann, Kirby Smart, and the defensive staff.

A one-time Florida lean, Jones took an official visit to Georgia the weekend of June 16th. That’s when sources say the Bulldogs took a commanding lead in his recruitment.

The hard-hitting 6-foot-3 232-pounder out of Fairfax (VA) is the No. 2 prospect in Virginia and has been on Georgia’s radar for a long, long time.

Now, he’s on the commit list.

Why did Jones commit to Georgia?

Well, it’s pretty simple.

The Georgia Bulldogs are on top of the college football world, Glenn Schumann is the top defensive coordinator in the game, and Georgia’s resume of putting linebackers in the NFL impressed Jones and his family.

“UGA is the King of the SEC and a place where I know I can grow as a LB,” Jones told Dawg Post. “Georgia is the home of the real dogs in college football. They have everything I need and love in one. Development, coaching, and competition. You can’t beat that. The work they put in day in and day out is special. They work to stay on top and it shows.”

“Coach Schumann is a football Einstein”, Jones added.  “Talking with him shows why Georgia is on top and why they have one of the best defenses in college football. They want me to play middle linebacker but with my skill-set I could rush the outside too. I’m excited to learn under him because I know he can take me to the next level.”

What will Jones bring to Athens?

Size, quickness, length, and versatility.

An extremely versatile linebacker, sources say Jones will get a look at both inside and outside when he gets to Athens. An excellent pass-rusher with length for days, Jones loves to get after the quarterback, but he can play in space as well. His work ethic is something the Georgia staff loves about him, so look for him to cross-train at multiple linebacker positions.

Jones has a lean but solid frame and plenty of speed, running a 4.58 laser-timed 40-yard dash. He’s still raw, but he’s full of potential with a long wingspan that allows him to shed blocks with ease. He’s explosive off the snap, bends well around the edge, and knows how to deliver a big hit in the backfield. He shows a great motor with the ability to create pressure and chaos in the backfield.

A sure-tackler, Jones knows how to wrap up properly and make a big tackle in space. When he does deliver a solid blow, more often than not, the ball-carrier is going backwards.

Jones is perfect not only for Schumann’s defense, but for Georgia’s program. He loves to compete, isn’t worried about the depth chart, loves to work, and wants to win. His work ethic is something multiple sources have raved about. At the end of the day, Jones has extremely high expectations for himself, and he knew that if he wants to be the best player he can be, that he needed to play for Glenn Schumann and the Georgia Bulldogs.

He has everything the Georgia staff is looking for, and today they landed his commitment publicly.

Jones is ranked in the On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 10 LB prospect and the No. 128 overall prospect in the country. He joins 5-star linebacker Justin Williams on the commit list, giving Georgia their 26th commitment in the 2024 class.
