ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs had one of the best linebackers in program history help lead them to the 2021 national championship.

Of course, that was 2021 Butkus Award Winner and 1st-Team All American, Nakobe Dean.

After leading the Bulldogs to a championship, Dean slipped in the 2022 Draft all the way to the third round where he was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 83rd overall pick.

After a rookie season where he made just 13 total tackles, reports are coming out of Philadelphia that Dean is making a move up the depth chart. In fact, he’s quickly becoming a leader for the Eagles and was wearing the all-important “green dot” on his helmet during the team’s first OTA practice this week.

That means Dean is calling the plays for the 1st-team Eagles defense.

Another former Bulldog on Philadelphia’s roster, big Jordan Davis, spoke about Dean’s rise on the defense this week.

“He’s a world class communicator”, Davis said in a press conference this week. “Just having Nakobe and having him get his shot is great.”

That should come as no surprise to Georgia fans. Dean was a team captain for the Bulldogs and led arguably the greatest defense in college football history. An incredible smart person on and off the field, it’s clear the Eagles got one of the steals of the 2022 Draft.

As a junior at Georgia, the former 5-star prospect out of Horn Lake (MS), who is still working on his mechanical engineering degree, made 72 tackles, 10.5 TFLs, six sacks, and two INTs.

For his career, Dean made 168 tackles, 13.5 TFLs, 7.5 sacks, two INTs, and three forced fumbles. His speed, instincts, and physicality made him a true enforcer in the middle of Georgia’s elite defense during his final season.

Now, Dean will be leading the Eagles defense this off-season, and he’ll be working alongside former Bulldog teammates Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith, Kelee Ringo, and Jalen Carter.

With Dean leading the way on defense, the Philadelphia Eagles now have +850 odds to win the Super Bowl next season according to FanDuel.
