ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart is spending his Saturday running around Athens interacting with some of the biggest recruits in America.

Georgia’s recruiting scavenger hunt is taking place this weekend, and Kirby and his staff has fanned out across campus to participate with recruits. 5-star Buford LB Jadon Perlotte‍, 4-star Colquitt County WR Ny Carr‍, 3-star Cass ATH Sacovie White‍, 5-star Oak Ridge (TX) LB Justin Williams, 5-star Saraland (AL) WR and Alabama commit Ryan Williams‍ and others are in Athens this weekend.

A slew of coaches including Kirby, Mike Bobo, Bryan McClendon, Chidera Uzo-Diribe and Glenn Schumann welcomed the recruits to UGA for the event. Georgia is coming off a big week of recruiting with 5-star QB Dylan Raiola picking the Bulldogs over Nebraska. Raiola is considered the consensus No. 1 prospect in the nation.

Raiola is also in Athens. He took advantage of his time in the area - running up to Jefferson to throw with White, Carr and 5-star Jefferson LB Sammy Brown‍. Brown has been a UGA target for some time, and insiders tell Dawg Post’s Matt DeBary that Brown is leaning more to the Dawgs of late.

College football is currently in the so-called evaluation period, which means coaches have been on the road visiting recruiting targets since Georgia’s G Day. Starting June 1st, Georgia and the rest of college football will be back to a quiet period - with on-campus camps will starting the weekend of June 2nd.

Kirby said in April that interactions during the evaluation period are some of the most critical parts of the recruiting process for the Dawgs.

“The more information you get the better decisions you man. Our coaches are on the road right now,” he said. “We want to everybody in the high school program from the custodian to the principle to the counselor. What are they really like? Then we want to get them on our campus. We like to see them workout. We feel like we make fewer mistakes when we watch kids and make evaluations.”
