ATHENS - Demello Jones, one of the top overall athletes in Georgia, has committed to Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart. He made the announcement on social media Friday afternoon.
Jones has been one of the fastest-rising overall athletes in Georgia in 2023. At running back, Jones rushed the ball 122 times for 1,279 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also made play after play in the secondary, showing he can cover, make a secure tackle on the ball-carrier, and lead a group of defenders. He’s ranked as the No. 22 prospect in Georgia for the 2024 class according to Dawg Post.
A dynamic two-way standout for Swainsboro, Jones quickly climbed up Georgia’s DB board after a fantastic junior season. Kirby went to Statesboro in January to watch Jones and his team take on the Blue Devils on the hardwood.

“He’s is a twitchy player with burst, ball skills and natural athleticism,” Dawg Post’s Matt DeBary said of the prospect.
The Bulldogs have sevreal defensive backs committed in the 2024 class, and they’ll look to add a few more this cycle. Jones visited Athens Thursday, and told Dawg Post that UGA was one of his top two schools going into the visit.
“UGA is already special with them being a powerhouse school in my state and they are showing a lot of love,” he said. “Coach Fran Brown and I already have that strong connection. He is just a good person outside of coaching.”
The Dawgs have ten players committed to them in the 2024 as of March 17, 2023. That class is considered the consensus No. 1 class in recruiting right now.
